Look At What Psychiatric Studies Gave Us.

I can remember acting up towards my parents when I was a child. I would have my fits and then I would get over it. I might be mad for awhile but I got over whatever the issue was. I learned what the corner was and this item that was called a belt. I never became the best of friends with either of them. It might explain my actions in my late teens and early 20's. I wasn't necessarily getting into 'trouble'. I just could have made better decisions in the here and now and about what to do with my life.

We have a new generation that turned out just the opposite of what was expected based on psychiatric predictions. In the early 90's, Psychiatrists thought that if we didn't discipline the children with spankings, then there would be less of a tendency to be violent. Kids that have a habit of acting up all the time are considered to need medication. This usually altered the child's personality and turned them into someone that they weren't. In reality the problem probably could have simply been resolved with a change in their diet and some reasonable discipline.

We also started handing out trophies for coming in last. Teachers and parents were told that if someone came in last, they needed to get a trophy so that their feelings wouldn't be hurt and their self-esteem wouldn't get damaged. This has led to creating a generation that thinks they are entitled to anything and everything. This has also taught a generation to think that they still get rewarded the same as the person that tried the hardest. Now we have a generation that thinks everyone should get the same amount for a raise at the job no matter how much or how little they worked.

We have what is the laziest, most self-absorbed and self-entitled generation that this country has ever created. This has happened due to following the direction of the specialist that did "studies" and came up with conclusions back in the early 90's. The damage that has been done, I suspect, will take at least 2 or 3 generations to reverse. With any luck the next generation will learn from history and start to fix what has been done wrong. Hopefully they will do it without being medicated.
